I have windows XP preinstalled

1. Dual Boot!!!
   Just create some empty space using Partition Magic or GNU Parted and then install Fedora. In the installation when it asks you for the partitioning, just say "Use Free Space". Voila your installation is done.
   Preferably use atleast 3 GB of hard disk space.

3. Hi, if you did not want the fuss about going duel boot, use a live fedora 6 cd.
4. If you want to do it safely, put linux on a second drive and have a dual boot system. A Windows partition with a linux partition can become problems, becaue windows scandisk and defrag will wipe out the linux partition if you use those window options.

   I crashed my Windows Vista, booting a linux livecd to see if my new computer would boot to linux from cd. There are always risk with two different operating systems. Sometimes you learn the hard way. It doesn't seem to affect my windows xp computer.

5. 2 methods:

   Convert your HDD to Fat32 and create 2 partitions, install one OS on each.

   Install a second HDD in your computer and put one OS on each.

   Also, there are programs that may be able to help you. Google these.

   Bootcamp
   Paralells
   Norton PartitionMagic

6. 1) You scan disk and defrag your windows partitions.

   2) you use software to shrink, your windows partitions,

   3) You then run the Fedora install. ? Iit should automatically recognise the winXP partitions and set up a dual boot option.

   4) Make absolutely sure that you set up a boot floppy/recovery floppy for whenever WinXP blows away the dual boot option, which it is likely to do at any upgrade.

   Personally, I prefer to swap hard disk (HD trays) or run different OSs on different hardware. Yes I use KVM swithces to save desktop space. Seperate machines have just been so much easier.
