Im planning to install linux. which version is best? red hat or fedora or suse or wht? plss tell me.?

pls tell me which one is best and famous and tell me where can I download.. thanks u

  1. Novell's new desktop version is not bad:

I've used it for people who have never even heard of Linux and have had good success with their adapting to it. You might want to try this after checking out the Puppy Linux.
By the way the trial version is a fully working version. Novell just sells the service for easier updating. You could find and download the updates on your own.

If you would like more info about all the different distributions you might want to check out:

  2. I don't think there is a 'best' Linux distribution, they are all "different". From my personal experience, Red Hat is good if you plan on running a cluster of servers, whereas Mandrake Linux seemed very friendly and easy to install (although it seems they now go by the name Mandriva)

I also hear good things about Ubuntu, but I have never checked it out.

  3. I've heard that Ubuntu Linux is very popular. I've used it. It seems to be good.

    http://www.ubuntu.com.

It was named "Linux of the Year" for 2005.

  4. Your best bet is just to download a few, burn them to CD, and try them out. I like Fedora but Suse is also an easy start. Solaris is also free now, though it's not Linux but similar.

There are also "live" versions of many of these that boot off a CD and don't actually install anything to your hard drive.

  5. If you are new to Linux I would suggest Suse 10, it's very easy to install, will partition for dual boot and is very user friendly. All these views are subjective though, but Suse is a good distro to learn on, once you have got a handle on suse, try some others you may find a distro which suits you better.
