1. Can't give you a good comparison, but let me say this, I am a Linux neophyte yet with Ubuntu 6.10 and Automatix I can pretty much do everything I need to without problems.

   Now I am not even sure what Frog does (perhaps the same thing as Automatic) but Ubuntu has a great support forum, answers come really quick.

   Give Ubuntu a try I don't think you will be disappointed. And your best bet to get more detailed (albeit biased ones) is to ask the questions in the respective forums of the two distributions.
