   Fedora core6 is just another distribution of linux, which means many organisations have taken the basic linux kernel and altered and added to it to make a distribution, there are many different distros each of which can be used for a different purpose or just the users personal preference, google "linux" if you want to learn more.

   There are a lot of advantages to using linux over microsoft, it is a lot more secure than windows, you don't even need antivirus software.
   It's free to use, so you can download a copy and install it free of charge, or if you want you can buy it with installation support & printed manuals etc.
   You get hundreds of free programmes with it.
   It's completely configurable, unlike windows you can get to any part of the operating system & alter it if you want.
   It's a lot more stable than windows, very few lockups of the machine and no blue screen of death, also you don't get the annoyance of having to reboot every time you install software.
   You can also dual boot a machine with windows & linux so you can install it alongside windows & try it out.

   One thing to remember with linux though, is that it is different to windows, most of it appears to work the same like having a GUI, icons & mouse clicks etc, so it will take a while to learn how to use it properly, there is a very large & helpfull comunity on the net which will help if you ask, try www.justlinux.com to start.
