What is the different between Fedora and Linux? Whiche one would you recommanded?

there is a lot of versins in Windows like win98,win2000,winNT, winXP , winVISTA here 98,2000,NT,XP,and VISTA these all are Versions of Microsoft Windows Operating System, and there is other two more operating system companies are, Linux and Macintosh,
In linux there is several versions Fedora(In fedora versions 2,3,4,5,6 are also there), SUSE (V 9,10), Debian, Mandriva etc….
like that several versions are in the Linux Operating system and those all are having some perticuler changes.
