windows vista OS Vs linux red hat fedora core

1. if you don't know much about computers and don't know about linux then just go for windows vista. if you don't have linux knowledge you will just struggle a lot more than you would with vista. I use apple
2. The only advantage that windows vista will have is that it can run the directx games. But I would not try it on vista because it is already a resource hog and starting up the game will probably be a futile exercise.

   You can run these games with wine or winex on Linux but it can be a little tricky to install and configure.

   Other than that you can not beat any Linux distro (maybe except Linspire or Lindows).

3. Ha. That depends. Red Hat and Fedora Core are linux operating systems, and, as a result, they do not run Windows programs. If you need to use a lot of windows only programs (most notably, games), then Linux will not work for you. However, if you just want to browse the internet and compose documents, Linux will work great for you.

   The advantage is that linux is FOSS- Free Open Source Software. Basically, it is completely free, and you can edit the source code. That is a major advantage because windows vista costs 2-400$

   Windows Vista will run any windows program, and linux will not. However, imho, Windows vista sucks. Its just xp with a pretty gui and is a system hog. I will not voluntarily "upgrade".

4. If you know anything about linux, run fedora. it's a fine operating system. Vista is brand new so it will have bugs galore. Fedora does not have the large # of games available so that's a minus but if you are just using it for a computer (internet, word, graphics, etc) fedora is FREE and more secure.
