Can't access my linux operating system after installing windows vista.?
I had linux and windowsXP on my PC, I recently replaced XP with Windows Vista. But now cannot access Linux(Kubuntu version).
- When the PC starts it automatically boots in Windows. How can I do this?
- Microsoft windows doesn't like to play nice with other operating systems, so instead of updating the master boot record when installed, it replaces it. Your Kubuntu is still there, you just don't have access to it.
Restoring the MBR is easy, but requires some knowledge of your installation. You need to know which partition is root and which is swap, and home if you have a separate one.
Here's how to restore it. Just pop in the Kubuntu CD and restart, when KDE loads, just start the normal install operation.
Go with it normally, don't worry nothing will be changed. When you reach the Disk Partition part, select manual partitioning and select the appropriate partitions, and make sure to uncheck format. Again, do not format them!Click yes to apply changes, and it will give you an error, ignore all the errors and continue until you reach the Kubuntu installation menu, this time select "Install Grub" and continue with that. When successfully done, restart and everything should be fixed.
- Windows overwrites the boot partition & replaces it with its own boot loader, with 2k I know you could reinstall grub but not so sure with xp
- the problem about vista is depends on what kind of vista u got: which upgrade and you have to wait for more updates because vistya just came out noe
- Thanks for your answer/comment.
