HOW TO ACCESS HARD DISK WITHOUT USING AN OPERATING SYSTEM SUPPORT not even linux?

hi HOW TO ACCESS HARD DISK WITHOUT USING AN OPERATING SYSTEM SUPPORT not even linux and how to run an application without the support of an operating system

  1. thanx dude
  2. thx dude
  3. an operating system is what it would take to do that.

you could ask, how would you skin a cat without using a sharp object. (sorry, PETA!) not possible, as far as I know.

  4. the person who answers this question shud be given 100000 points he is a real genius
  5. You can use DOS. to use DOS make startup disk from windows 98 and boot from your floppy.
  6. It's possible, but very difficult. Every PC comes with a presetuped operating system which is the BIOS (Binary Input Output System). Besides its configuration issues which anyone can edit, it makes the connections between all the components of your pc. If you make a doityourself bootdisk, which is not easy and are an expert in assembler language, then you can do this, without any other OS!
An example of an OS which ocupies no more then 600 Kb (the installation kit) is miranda. It's written entirely in assembler and it does the jog quite well (I mean accesing the components, reading from hdd, etc). Here is the link:

  3. Actually any program that could do this would be considered to have an embedded operating system. Many antivirus and system recovery programs use a minimized o/s in order to access the hard drive.
  4. uh, yea. do you speak binary?
  5. How to write an operating system.
google (or yahoo) for tinyos. Interesting stuff.
  6. thx dude
  7. Nope. If you wrote an application to do that, you'd essentially be writing an operating system. :-P
