How to install windows 2003 server in the linux system?

have a redhat Linux operating system……….(new system)….I have two hard drives. One of the hard disks has Linux in it…..In the other hard disk, I am planning to Load Windows 2003 Server…….After loading the Windows 2003 server , I need to boot through the Windows 2003 OS….. I mean, I need dual boot option….So that I can select the OS while booting….

  1. How do I load Windows 2003 Server ? Is there, any sequence which I need to follow. Give me step-by step instructions….
  2. Just boot from the Win2k3 CD and select the unused drive to install it. Once that's done, you'll need to use a bootloader such as grub or LILO. Theoretically the Windows bootloader could boot Linux. I've never done it but have been told that it's possible.
  3. so its going into windows without giving option for linux? I would retry installing grub the linux boot loader to the MBR. Another method of installing win2003 server would be to install wmware on your linux OS and run the windows OS out of vmware. I prefer this option because u can run both OS at the same time so you wont need to reboot to change OS

VMware.com to get the software, its free for vmware server.

  4. Please help..
  5. Yes install the Windows 2003 server on the other drive or make a partition on the linux drive for it. Then setup a bootloader like grub.
  6. Finally, I should be able to selelect either Linux or Windows 2003 while booting….
  7. After loading Windows 2003 server, I should be able to boot through it…

  6. I would disconnect the LINUX hard drive and install Windows 2003 Server on the other HD. Once Windows 2003 is configured - disconnect that HD and boot into LINUX and make this change:

You need to add one line to lilo.conf specifying where the Windows 2003 boot files are located and run LILO when the changes are complete.

There are many resources out there which provide detailed instructions for doing this.

  5. Buy the CD instead. That's a no brainer.

You might consider getting Partition Magic or other utility that supports Windows 2003 and Linux for dual boot.

    Good luck
