I have the Linux operating system on my computer. How do I download stuff on to it, its not like windows.?

I got a power spec computer from Micro Center. I didnt know it had the Linux system on it. I only have dial up, so it provides the current internet providers. I have a juno account. I cant access the internet from my computer, one message says no "carrier" although I did the internet set up correct. ALso, since this isnt windows, I cant put a CD in and it downloads, the browser comes up all the time but since I'm not on the internet I cant do anything. Can someone help?

  1. Unfortunately, Linux doesn't work well with dialup services, you would be better off getting broadband or installing windows. Depending on where you live you can get broadband for almost as cheap as dialup ( I have DSL for $15 a month http://www.att.com/gen/general?pid=6431… ). You can get windows vista home for about $240 at Target stores (don't get the upgrade version, it won't work).
