Running a UNIX or Linux operating system on my computer, can I use the same app. software used to run Windows?

If you were running a UNIX or Linux operating system on your computer, could you use the same application software that you use for a computer running Windows?

  1. You can to some degree with an implementation of the Windows API called wine.

Also, a number of applications are cross platform and work on either, for example Firefox and OpenOffice.org. They work natively on Windows, Linux, and other platforms.

  2. You can install WINE or some other "Windows" simulators but windows programs will not run natively on Linux/Unix any more than linux/unix programs will run natively on windows.

  4. How funny, I have this question for my computer info class and it is exactly the same! Thanks for asking it :-)
