What's a good Linux Operating System that supports a wireless card?

Can someone give me a Linux Operating System that supports internet via a wireless card (preferrably with Firefox as the browser)?

  1. Fedora core 5
  2. I know for sure that a Debian flavor of the Linux OS does. It supports a wireless card with Mozilla as its browser.
  3. It's best to look at this question the other way around, and you'll get better results.

The wireless card which is best supported by Linux is the PC Card LinkSys WPC55AG, or its sister PCI Card Adapter the WMP55AG.

I have used both these with PCLinuxOS, Dreamlinux and Vectorlinux. I recommend PCLinuxOS or Vectorlinux as they both have good wireless drivers built-in - Linux will sniff out all wireless signals around you using these cards, and give you a list.

With Linux you buy hardware which is known to work well with Linux - such as scanners, printers, wireless etc… it's a very different way of doing things to Windows.

Vectorlinux has the latest Firefox 2 and Flash 9 installed out of the box, so that's probably best for you. Download the Vector live CD ISO and burn it yourself to see if it works with your computer. If you want to go ahead and install, you will need the Vector install CD ISO, which is different from the live ISO.

  4. Newest version of Red Hat, while there may be others that support wireless, this is by far the most consumer friendly version I know of. It also comes with some level of support.
