Which is the best free Linux Operating System?

  1. I've used SUSE, Mandrake (now called Mandriva), and Ubuntu. Between those, Ubuntu is the best in my opinion. Its packaging system is the best and it automatically updates itself.
  2. I assume you mean Linux Distribution. All the distributions use Linux as the operating system.. Read the article

This also links to lists of distributions.

Ubuntu can be a little arcane in it's attempt to stay pure Open Source. If you want a microsoft replacement try Mandriva

Try the 2007 Powerpack - I'm using it now, it's a dream to install.

If you end up using Linux, please support the distribution, either with a subscription, support or contribution.

There's a different version depending on what you want to use your system for. You have a download or free CD option also.
