How can I block pop3 port in my web server?

I find pop3 port (110) and port 25 are open in my Debian/Linux server.I don't want them and want to block or delete them.I set "DROP" in iptables but it doesn't work.I delete exim4.

close the ports using a firewall?.. just a thought don't really know mucha bout linux servers
