I need help with my new laptop.?
Okay, I just got this laptop today. I think it may have once belonged to a teacher because the computers at my school are the same way.
- It doesn't let me have full access of the computer, and my account is an administrator. It doesn't let me click properties on the toolbar, either.
- its expecting to log into a novell domain. You will probably have to log in to the machine with a local administrator account in safe mode to remove it.

- I think that the best idea would be to re-install the operating platform (Windows, Mac, etc.). I would do this for multiple reasons.
1.) It would delete any previously installed software, yes, even NetWare. This would make it just like a brand new computer (I am automatically assuming it was used because it has software on it you didn't install)
2.) You could upgrade to a new, upgraded version of it, maybe Windows XP to Windows Vista, this is optional, you could just re-install Windows XP.
3.) You will no longer have any restrictions on it unless you re-install the NetWare software.
You could do this by looking up a computer expert (GeekSquad at Best Buy, etc). It will probably cost about $50 for the re-installation of the current platform (if you have the disk) If you don't, you will have to pay for the new disk, the disk is probably $100.

- It also has a different log-in screen - it's called Novell. I tried to get it to the normal log-in screen but it said Client Services for NetWare prevents it and that it must be unistalled to change it to the normal log-in. I have no idea how to do this.
- How do you log in with safe mode? My knowledge of computers only goes so far lol.
- It also have a Symantic Client thing that I think is blocking all of this.
- Ok well you will need to uninstall Novell Client to restore all functionality to the admin account.
To do this you first will half to boot in safe mode (repeatedly press F8 after pressing the power button and then select Boot Windows in Safe Mode)
Once you are at the desktop screen go to Start > Control Panel > Add Remove Programs > and find any programs that have Novell In them and remove them. This should restore functionality to the computer.
If this doesn't work you might have to contact the person you purchased it from and see if they have the administrator account for the Novell Client so it can be deactivated. Another way around would be to back-up your personal data and reformat and reinstall Windows.
