What is ZENworks and do you need Novell to run it?

I am an all Microsoft shop and am told ZENworks won't manage my needs.

  1. ZENWorks is a Novell product— you need a Novell server and the NDS (Novell Directory Services) up and running plus a lot of other things to fully benefit from its features. ZENWorks stands for Zero Effort Networks and lets you do all sorts of neat management things to your network's computers, everything from remote control (useful for Help Desk techs) to patch and application install. It's expensive but in my opinion it can be worth it— for example, deploying non-Microsoft apps is a lot easier than using Windows Group Policies.
