Why does windows XP take so long to access my novell 4.1 network? My windows NT is very quick to access.?
This occurs when I access a folder that has not been access is a few days. Once I accesss the folder for the 1st time then it is ok untill it sits idol for a day or two. Must be a setting in XP that is set correctly. Like I said windows NT never had this problem and still does not have this problem.
- Which client are you using? Microsoft's or Novell's? What version? Are you running NetwareIP on your server or just IPX?
Don't mean to be rude, but none of the other posters understand your environment. One thing to definitely check is whether the client is trying to use TCP/IP. If the server doesn't have IP, the client will time out and then try IPX. You can unbind IP from the client by going to Network Connections. Under Advanced/Advanced settings, uncheck the box next to "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" under the Netware client. This will cause the client to only use IPX.
- Well, you have to look at the functions of the programs as well. It is not because they are new that makes them better. Windows XP was originally designed for Home and Office uses, not for network. On the other side, Windows NT was meant for network users. So there is already a big difference between the two. Also, Windows XP has new problems almost everyday, which affects the network functions in one way or the other. If you want to fix the problem, my suggestion would be either go back to Windows NT or start using Windows Server.
- Although XP is better configured for networking ..but as in your case I think you have a local problem which system files.
questions!
do you have NT and XP in the same PC ?
How much RAM do you have ? - in order for your novel and a few other progams to work faster u will need to cleen up your desktop. to do that the easest way is through the cleanup wizard
- U might have noticed that the novell client software is different for NT and XP versions. the two can not be compared. is the Boot delay for win98 and winXp the same?
Just the same way.
