XP Home on a domain?
My friend has a laptop with XP Home edition, and at her school their computers log on using Novell Netware or something. Her home edition laptop connects to a domain with some software (after she logs on to her laptop not the network I THINK).
- I want to take my laptop with XP home to school, and the login there is just normal Windows 2000 Professional logo at the top of the login box, with username, password and domain boxes underneath.
- thanks everyone!!!
- also, I havent answered my own question by sayin the above, just what they would think. either downgrade or get some software. anyone know the link to that novell whatcha callit?
- I did a quick search which brought up
http://vowe.net/archives/001639.html…
Reading through the page, it looks like it may work. X-setup is avaliable from: http://www.x-setup.net/downloads/…Hope that works
- You can only do it two ways. Have the administrator make your laptop part of a workgroup, then attach the workgroup to the domain…however, I doubt they'll do that just for you. The other way is to upgrade to Windows XP Professional.
- all the IT techhies would say is install win 2000 (eww! who wants to downgrade)
and they'll want it all ready so it can just link up or it's a case of piss off.
I am from rochdale and the school is a shithole!
- If your really interested in doing this and being able to be on the network I would go to the Office and see if you can speak to the head ECS, they are the only ones with the correct software and information to make it so you would be able to login to the school network.
- is there any software I can use to connect my xp home laptop to a domain? preferably free or cheap. I know there is something, just don't know what.
- you should still be able to access the domain with xp home as part of a workgroup as long as you have a network username and password. I don't think any tech support worth their salt would let any tome dick or hairy rock up with a computer and add it to the domain. bit of a security risk if you ask me.
