  • I got so irritated by this not working and made a shell script with xdotool and bound it to alt + q.

    #!/bin/bash
    pid=$(xdotool getactivewindow getwindowpid)
    kill “$pid”

    Some programs (like a terminal or libre-office) will be under one PID, so running this will close all of your terminal windows FYI.
