Ubuntu

I tried to remove Ubuntu (dual booting ubuntu and windows) to sell this Thinkpad Yoga 14 with windows to my friend and every time I turn it on this GRUB screen comes on. I can bypass it by typing “exit”, but I want to remove GRUB and Ubuntu completely.

  • 1 simplest way is to re-install Windows to whole disc via Windows Media Creator, this will nuke Ubuntu and put latest Windows on machine

  • My suggestion, and I don’t know this will work but I had the reverse problem that Grub wasn’t showing up.

In the Bios, there may be a boot order change needed. Grub may just show in the boot options list.

You may also need to pick the Windows boot loader for SecureBoot in the Bios.

Sorry I can’t help much beyond that. How is probably different for different machines.

  • I followed the steps of a youtube video and it didn’t work. I tried to remove ubuntu by going on windows deleting the partition, then restarting+shift. Then troubleshoot > advanced options > command line. After that the video said to do a bunch of commands like bootrec /fixboot, etc. At the end, it didn’t work. Any help? Thanks
