Got an old iMac. Wanna install Linux on it. Will every program made for linux work on my computer?
I found a Linux distribution for the G3 processor, was wondering, once I install linux on this computer, will EVERY program made for linux work on this puppy?
- Only if it supports the PPC platform. If the precompiled package doesn't support it, try to compile the source code and if this doesn't work then I'm sorry.
Since Apple has already created a partnership with Intel, meaning they will probably stop supporting the PPC platform, there won't be many Linux distributions to support this platform. I would recommend you Yellow Dog Linux (I know it sounds strange but they were the ones who developed YUM — Yellow Dog Update Manager — which is at the base of all RPM based distributions such as suse and fedora). - Put gentoo on it.
