How can I install program from CD to Linux?
I installed linux fedora in my PC & now windows can't be install, I don't know linux well, How can I install programs (like games, vcd player, etc…) in linux
- well, first of all, these programs have to be designed for Linux. If they do, they normally end with .rpm extension. Now, you can use the "rpm" utility to install it. The general syntax is "rpm -I XXXX.rpm". If you need more info, do a man page "man rpm"
Personally, Linux is not designed for gaming and similar sort of things. If you're not too familiar with Linux, I'd recommend to reinstall Windows on it.
- I've had a little experience with Fedora (core 6). The linux system uses a different format, so windows programs cannot be used on linux. however, there are usually versions of these programs for linux.
under your system settings or administration settings, I dont remember how it's worded, there is a install/uninstall programs option, and you can browse through the programs in there to see what you want. or visit the website of the programs you are looking at to see if they have a linux version
