I'm a linux/windows user. Do you think a mac do everything I need?

I'm using a PC, running two OS's, Linux (fedora core) and Windows. I run Linux for mathematical programming, Latex-ing, and mostly work (math) related stuff. Linux is great (and free!), but it requires a lot of time to maintain, and I'm not all that comfortable with it. And I hate downloading and installing drivers whenever I want to install a new peripheral. I run Windows because everyone else does.

  1. I also run Photoshop and AutoCAD. Not much of a gamer.
  2. Chew on this: If you buy an Intel Mac, you can boot all three operating systems on it, so it'll be one machine for three OSes.
  3. I wouldn't recommend mac for programming….

your best bet is to try Ubuntu Linux (they're getting much more user-friendly these days) and try it, and mayb run it on dual with Windows.

I realize you dont want 2 OSes, but it provides flexibility, especially if the linux distro isn't too high maintainence (like fedora core)

you may even want to try Linux with a Windows emulator.
YOu can run Photoshop on this emulator or just use GIMP for Linux [may take a little getting used to, but just as great as Adobe Photoshop]

so you really technically only have 1 OS, but much of the functionality of two! [note: some emulators are free, but the "good" ones are shareware…look them up before making a decision]

  4. I'm sick of running and maintaining two OS's. Do you think I will able to do everything I want with a mac?
  5. Yes, Mac can do everything for you. I've been a Mac user since Apple Classic debut.
