Other than better security, what advantage does linux have over windows.?

I have Ubuntu 5.10 dual booted with windows xp on my computer. I got it because all the linux people are like "windows sucks get linux." From my experience so far I think windows is way better than linux. 1. No iTunes on Linux. 2. Less programs on Linux. 3. Impossible to install anything on linux if it isn't in synaptic. 4. I cant get DVD's to play even with VLC media player. 5. I cant get my wirelss keyboard and mouse to work.

  1. Could some linux person tell me advantages of Linux over windows because my experience has not been that good. Don't tell me no viruses(I never get any anyway) or that it is free. I want to know other advantages.
  2. Get to know sourceforge.net. It has everything free.

Open office costs 0$ and it's just as good as microsoft office

Gimp costs 0$ and it's just as good as $800 adbobe photoshop

there's just a myriad of benefits. Linux isn't just plug and play and aggressively install everything automatically. Linux systems are built to be configured by the users so they setup their own light weight systems.

If you want something more aggressive in installers and has like 5 dvds worth of software
    try mandriva

also a simple one with easy installers is knoppix

You can do everything you do on windows.
