What are the BEST programs for linux…..?
I am switching from windows to linux and would like to know what I should get…please help!
- Many open-source apps can run under Linux
Here are some preferred programs that can run under Linux
Internet browser- Mozilla Firefox/ Mozilla Suite
E-mail- Thunderbird
IM- GAIM
Picture Editing- Gimp
File Sharing- Bit-torrent
Office Suite- Open Ofiice.org - Firefox is a must if you want to securely browse the Internet. Also, get Gaim so you can chat with all of your friends.
I don't know if Thunderbird is on Linux as well, but you should try to get it.I hope you're using a good, stable Linux release (Ubuntu, for example)
- Just search for whatever you want on the Internet and you should be fine.
The best media player is mplayer (should be on your installation discs)
There are tons of web browsers, email clients, and chat clients on your installation also.
here is a place that has a lot of great software packages if you can not find them on your installation disc.
