Can linux be installed on asus k8s-mx motherboard on a sata HDD?

My specs:AMD 64 bit athlon; asus k8s-mx motherboard; seagate 80 gb sata hdd; 256 mb ram;

  1. I have tried to install red hat linux ES 4 but it didn't detect my hdd.
  2. You probably did not format your hard drive correctly. Try formatting the hard drive using a FAT-32 file system instead of NTSF. Most importantly, you should read the distribution release notes to check if this version is configure for system X86_64 (for AMD 64 system). Also, you might want to consider setting up your system as a dual boot system. Install Windows 98 or Windows XP first, then install Linux. It is very easy because the installing process is very much automatic. In my case, I have two hard drives and Win98SE, WinXP Pro, Win2000, and SUSE 10.0 installed. Just experiment with it and if it doesn't work, keep trying.
  3. I think linux might detect SATA as a SCSI drive. On some motherboards, Windows does not recognize SATA either and needs the floppy disk with drivers.
    I think I had luck with Fedora Core 4 and SATA drives. Also try Xandros.
  4. If its possible please do mention a linux distro that suits me.
