I'm trying to transfer files from a Fedora Core to the host server, which is a Red Hat v 8. How do I do it from the command line?

1. Well there are several ways to do this. They depend on what servers are running on the host machine. If you can ssh to the host server, then the best way is "scp <filename> <host machine>:<filename>". If this is not setup you can try ftp or one of the disk sharing protocols like Samba or NFS.
2. use ftp. make sure you can ping each host, and make sure you can write to the folder on the destination server, then go to the source server using rlogin, then ftp to the destination server (where you want to put the files) and type mput [filename]. all these utils should be on any unix-like box, so you won't need anything else
