I can't install Fedora Core 4 on Dell Dimension C521. Does anyone have a similar problem?
I tried to install Red Hat Linux 9 and Fedora Core 4 on a newly purchased Dell Dimension C521, but it asks for a language selection and a keyboard type, then it asked where the install media is. After I select the CD-ROM, it keeps asking me to select the driver. I have never seen this option or screen when I installed either of flavor of Linux before. Does anyone have a similar problem as mine? If so, how did you manage to install Linux?
- No problems here, I'd never try to install it.
- Yes, same problem here.
I believe that any kernel older than 2.6.8 will not install properly on the C521.
I need to install Debian on it, but it will not install, same problem you are having. I also tried Slackware 10.2 and, you guessed it, same problem.
The only thing so far I have been able to load properly is SUSE 10.1, Gentoo 2006.1 and Whitebox Enterprise Linux.
Unfortunately I don't want to use any of these distros.
I think Fedora Core 6 will install OK, but I haven't downloaded the distro yet to test it.
Looking at the Dell forums there isn't much talk about Linux and the CD/DVD drives, but quite a bit about Linux and USB ports.. so obviously there is something going on.
