Okay, Linux users, which version of Linux is the best? Suse, Redhat, Knoppix, Mandrake, Xandros, or TurboLix?
I like Linux because it looks cool and offers better security. On the other hand, I dislike Linux because there are so many versions, packages, kernel, etc. Moreover, they are not compatiable among them. It is not a user friendly OS. It is also very frustrating just to install or update a simple program to work.
- For your case either FEDORA or SUSE is the best bet. UNBUNTU linux is also good otherwise. If you want a free linux CD just go to UBUNTU website and order it from there, it will be shipped free of cost to your home.
If you are a simple home user try UBUNTU, take my word you wont have to configure anything. - Fedora, use Fedora core it's the newest derivation of Red Hat.
- If you want a user friendly one I rcommend you either SuSE (http://opensuse.org) or Mandriva (http://mandriva.com)
- depends on what you want.. check www.distrowatch.com an read about each one. Select the one which best fit your needs
- I am a devoted Red Hat 9 user simply for the fact I do not like the MAC like interface of Fedora and I am a command line junkie. Although I am also using Slackware 10 and have found it to be a little bit more powerful.
- Whitebox is a fairly easy to use linux core dreived from Red Hat when it went commercial.
- I recommend
1. Fedora Core 5
2. Kubuntu
