Operating Systemss in a single pc?
I have an old 40gb IDE hard disk installed with winXP currently using. now I going to add 1 more new hard disk 250gb SATA2.
- reason due to I wanted to install new lanuch window Vista, and Red hat linux as learning purpose.
- OK,
I know ZERO on the new Vista - but as with other M#*^ products, waiting for the first or second patch is usually a good idea.
but you can install 2 OS's - install the Microsoft first - it "tends" to believe it is the only OS so it over writes others, then install the linux buy segmenting the disk (partition for linux) .
there are a lot of good sites to give you more detail (search on partition and dual OS)
J
- my question is,
- 3 OS's can reside on a single hard drive, just create an individual partition on your 40gb for each OS when you install them. You can slave the 250Gb and use it as storage that can be accessable by all 3 OS's. With all three OS's on a single hard drive, no changes to the boot order will be needed. Just turn o the machine, select your OS, and you're ready to go.
- There are a few ways do do what you are asking.
For a non-vm solution:
Although not necessarilyrequired, I highly recommend installing each OS to a separate partition. Install the OSes in thie order: XP, Vista, Redhat. How you divvy up the partitions on the disks, depends on hoe much you want each OS to have. For a VM solution, download VMWare server from www.vmware.com. Load it on your XP box. Now you can build and load instances of whatever OS you want. The only catch is that they run a little slower, because they are being virtualized on top of your existing OS, and you need a respectable amount of hardware to run VMWare effectively. I would recommend nothing less than a dual processor/dual core with 1.5GB of RAM.
- Kindly give me as detail as possible. Appreciate your time for my long Question!!!
- how about virtual machine? anything to do with it as to help me in my question?
- if yes, how the boot process like? need to set anything? bios? or cabling?
- 2- can 3 OS resize in a single hard disk?
- 3- or should I install 2OS in 1hard disk, and the other1 OS in 1 hard disk?
- 1- total 3 operating system, what is your suggestion of installation into 2 hard disk?
