What is the use of configuring LDAP on redhat linux network?

  1. LDAP is not a network or system requirement, but it is a way of presenting or providing information. For example, if you are on a network and one machine/server has a master list of email and business contact addresses, that can be provided through LDAP, and every machine on the network with a LDAP client (including MS Windows PCs) can access that list. It is also popular for Active Profiles and for authentication for roaming or mobile users, but in most cases I see it implemented as a service to provide address book-type data to network clients.
