When I boot Red Hat Fedora Linux, keyboard and mouse don't respond!?

When I try to load Linux normally, the keyboard and mouse do not auto detect. However, when I use the boot disk to run Linux, they are detected fine.

  1. How do I run Linux without the boot disk, while still getting the keyboard and mouse to respond?
  2. I would reinstall
  3. I am running in Core Version 1 i386 In Red Hat Linux.
  4. I think you need to go buy a PC and use windows
  5. If they work while you are using the bootdisk you can consider that they are working well and the problem comes from the kernel of Fedora Core 1 on your machine. A kernel issue is always tricky to investigate. A common problem is that some kernel try to use the info provided by the BIOS to use peripherials (mouse/keyboard) and some directly access the hardware. That might be what is happening here. Try this, go into your bios (hardware setup at boot time) and try to change some plug'n play settings or options related to ps/2.

    Cheers,

  6. Oh, I am using PS/2 mouse and keyboard, neither came with drivers.
  7. Are these USB kbd and mouse or are they kbd& mouse port items?

Any special drivers needed? - does Linux detect USB at boot up or when it is almost finished booting?
