Why Red hat linux is not free?
I know Open Source Software should be free, and the Red Hat Linux is based on the work of Linus the college student.
- why they sell the software? why not they provide it free?
- They want to make money off of it. Most of what they are selling is a support contract. If you want Red Hat for free, look at Fedora or CentOS.
- You are paying for support. Redhat fedora is free but you wont get any help. Pay for it and they will advise you.

When you buy it you are paying for shipping / media / support as the other user said. - Red Hat is the professional brand…the free version that everybody uses is called Fedora:
