In RedHat Linux(9.0) while surfing internet through proxy server I can visit all site,but cannt check mail.?

Ther r no restriction from server.fireWall is medium. now when I visit yahoo its ok,but when I click mail it showing a message "mail.yahoo.com…. could not found". & this prolem happen for every site(I.e I can open any other site but not their mail)
