Where can I find what version of SUSE Linux I am running?

  1. I don't have a SUSE machine handy to test, but
certainly with RedHat and other Unix variants
I've worked with, a couple of places to check
    would be:

    1) The output of the command:

    /bin/uname -a

    2) The contents of the file:

    /etc/motd

  2. Open susehelp either with the icon in kmenu or open a terminal & type susehelp, the suse version should be at the top of the window. If you can't find it here try this:

Go to kmenu>system>Yast2 then after root password open software management, pick package groups>documentation>suse then highlight an installed RPM and click the version tab in the bottom right hand window the suse version will be displayed.
